As you know many people develop unwanted habits as a way to cope with depression, anxiety, & trauma. Not only will this course give you evidence-based interventions for helping people change habits, but it will also provide protocols for updating emotional memories and triggers driving these unwanted behaviors. 

This is not your average online course. You'll get entertaining pre-recorded videos from Courtney Armstrong, demonstrations of techniques with real-life people, scripts, and live Q&A calls. Courtney will share techniques supported by evidence-based research as well as the tools that worked for her personally. Course Objectives and Schedule

After completing this course you'll be able to:
1. Assess client readiness using Prochaska and DiClemente's 5-Stages of Change.
2. Explain three aspects of a habit loop.
3. Use at least 3 hypnosis techniques to reduce unwanted behaviors.
4. Use at least 3 hypnosis techniques to increase motivation and desired behaviors.
5. Create a smoking-cessation treatment plan for a client.
6. Create a behavioral weight loss plan for a client.
7. Apply at least 1 technique to reduce the intensity of a craving.

  • Module 1:
    Smoking Cessation
  • Part 1: Assess & Break Habit Loops

    Prepare your client for success by assessing their readiness using the 5-stages of change, and explain three aspects of the habit loop.

  • Part 2: Use Targeted Inductions & Suggestions 

    Craft personalized protocols for each client, selecting from several inductions & dozens of suggestions that banish cravings, reduce stress, and boost motivation.

  • Part 3: Reinforce Success + Demo

    Explain how to use follow-up and maintenance sessions to increase client success. Review video demonstration utilizing hypnotherapy for  smoking cessation.

  • Q&A Call Monday 3/23/20

    Q&A call on Monday, 3/23/20 via Zoom where you can ask questions, discuss cases, and observe demonstrations Calls are recorded if you can't attend live.

    Weight Loss
  • Part 1: Explore the Function of the Food

    Assess emotional needs clients are trying to meet with food. Teach new self-care strategies with self-hypnosis. Craft suggestions that build from each client's strengths.  

  • Part 2: Create a Healthy Mindset

    Create suggestions that promote a healthy relationship with food, boost motivation to exercise, and decrease cravings for unhealthy foods.

  • Part 3: Review a Demonstration Video 

    Review and discuss a video demonstration using hypnosis techniques to enhance healthy eating, increase motivation to exercise, & nurture the self.

  • Q&A Call Monday 3/30/20

    Q&A call on Monday 3/30/20 where you can ask questions, discuss cases, and observe demonstrations. Call will be recorded if you can't attend live.

  • Module 3:
  • Part 1: Reduce Drug Cravings with Memory Reconsolidation

    Apply new insights from memory reconsolidation research to reduce drug cravings, and review video of a research experiment designed to weaken cravings for alcohol. 

  • Part 2: Curb Cravings with NLP Techniques

    Demonstrate how to alter imagery, heighten sensory awareness, and use role-play games to disrupt patterns, condition new responses, and teach clients new coping strategies. 

  • Part 3: Explore the Root of a Craving

    Identify emotional memories driving unwanted patterns and use Courtney's RECON protocol to update core beliefs, change emotional responses, and resolve inner conflicts.

  • Do I need prior training in hypnosis to attend this training?  Prior training in hypnosis is preferred so all the techniques make sense to you. But, it is not entirely necessary to have prior hypnosis training IF you are a licensed mental health professional and have some experience using guided imagery/meditations, EMDR, and treating trauma or addiction.
  • Will I be able to use hypnosis after this workshop? Yes, in most states, you'll be able to use your skills immediately if you are a licensed mental health practitioner. Go to to see what your state requires.
  • Will I be eligible for certifcation after this workshop? To be fully certified in clinical hypnosis, the National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists requries you complete at least 50 hours of live, in-person hypnosis workshops. This training awards 7-hours in online hypnosis training, but online hypnosis training may not be recognized by all hypnosis accrediting boards.
  • Can I count this course towards annual CE's for my mental health license?  Check the CE information at the bottom of this page and at CES CE CreditCommonwealth Educational Seminars (CES) has approved this course for 7 CE's and is authorized to sponsor CE's for psychologists, social workers, LPC's, and LMFT's in many states. BUT-- go to CES CE CREDIT to make sure your license and state are covered. It is your responsbility to check with your state's licensure board to verify the CE requirements for your state.

  • Refunds and cancellations: If you need to cancel your registration before the class starts, please e-mail us with your request. Cancellations received prior to 3/14/20 will be refunded tuition less a 10% processing fee. After the course starts, cancellations will only be permitted on a case-by-case basis and any refund will incur a processing fee of 30% if received during the first week of the course, and a 60% processing fee, if received during the second week of the course. Cancellations will not be accepted after 3/27/20.

  • How long do I have to complete the course? You'll have a full year to complete the course! The course is designed so you can access the videos, worksheets, and scripts at your own pace and have until 3/14/2021 to compete it. The live Q&A webianrs run from 3/23/20 to 4/6/20, but if you can't attend any of those live, they will be recorded and uploaded to the course website.
